Stories

Read some of the stories from people Wizer CIC has helped.

Terry Wood

My name is Terry and I am grateful addict. Today I am 341 days clean from all mind altering, mood altering drugs of choice and I am grateful for the support and help from the team at Wizer. They met me from the prison gates and made the call to open the door to my recovery program. I am now living clean and doing all the simple things recovery service offer- steps work, talking about how I am feeling in group and going to meetings. I now know that I have spent a lot of time in and out of jails, institutions, and had near death experiences, and now that I have done a bit of reading and journalling I am seeing things in a much better perspective today. I have fully surrendered to this stuff brothers and sisters, and with the willingness, open mindedness and honesty and I have remained teachable. With the ability to get through day by day and being true to myself and others, you just need to tell your self it is definitely a life or death program. I am grateful and clean and serene from drugs. God bless and take it real easy Terry Wood.

Carl Anderson

Hi, my name is Carl Anderson, and I am an addict.

I am 50 years old and been in and out of addiction for the last 25 years. I have tried many times to get clean on my own, but if I’m honest, they were only ever half-hearted attempts. I’ve used most drugs over my addiction to escape from real life, such as heroin, cocaine, crack, valium, pregabalin the list goes on and on. Nothing ever took my pain away or stopped me using.
My addiction has taken me to many dark places and times within my life, and has affected many people including my family, kids and friends. This is something I have a deep sense of guilt and shame about. In the year 2020 I went to a rehab for the first time and tried to sort my life out, but I didn’t fully commit myself to it, and I let my feelings for a woman take me back out the door. This eventually led me to a relapse. Fast forward to 2024, my ex-wife of 25 years passed on and this hit me hard. My drug use went from bad to worse and I really couldn’t deal with life.

In 2020 I completed a criminal justice course with Tee from Wizer CIC.

I started going to his new office to be referred by them to a treatment centre so I could get the help I knew I needed. I was going that often that they probably were sick of the sight of me, but I had truly hit my rock bottom and was desperate to change my life. After 2 assessments I was finally given a bed at growing Rooms treatment centre in Leeds. I came here on the 12/05/25 and I’m now 111 days clean. I’m currently on my step 3 of a 12-step program and beginning to enjoy life again. I am building on my recovery and self-respect to become a better dad, person and friend. I’m still very early into my recovery, but if I can help just 1 person by giving you a small insight into my life, then I’m happy.

Without the help of Wizer CIC and all the staff there, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They believed and helped me when I didn’t believe or have faith in myself. So, if you’re thinking about helping yourself and want to get some support, then go and speak to them. I can’t say enough good things about each and every one there. I owe them a depth of gratitude I can never repay. So, thank you so much for all your help.

Stuart Hall

My name is Stuart. I sought Wizer’s assistance after I was released from prison after I heard about their service inside. I was finding my feet again but needed their assistance here and there whilst I found employment again. I didn’t have much support when I was released, but Wizer gave me somewhere to go to discuss options for the future over a coffee. We talked about different courses they could put me through, and fast forward a few months I am now full-time employed in a job that I enjoy. I couldn’t fault them if I tried and I recommend them to anyone that’s gone through or going through something similar.

Darren Lawton

I’m Darren. I wouldn’t be sat here today, free from active addiction if it wasn’t for this intervention. I would probably be back in jail or on the streets, and I will never forget what Wizer did for me

Maisie State

All you need is wrap around care, like what Wizer provide; the staff are caring, friendly and most importantly don’t judge you and your story, they help give you the strength during the toughest times. They have supported me through some of my most challenging periods of life, and will be forever grateful. There is always help there, just don’t be afraid to ask, its never too late to change!
